Electromagnetic duality in general relativity

چکیده
By resolving the Riemann curvature relative to a unit timelike vector into electric and magnetic parts, we consider duality relations analogous to the electromagnetic theory. It turns out that the duality symmetry of the Einstein action implies the Einstein vacuum equation without the cosmological term. The vacuum equation is invariant under interchange of active and passive electric parts giving rise to the same vacuum solutions but the gravitational constant changes sign. Further by modifying the equation it is possible to construct interesting dual solutions to vacuum as well as to flat spacetimes. PACS numbers : 04.20,04.60,98.80Hw ∗E-mail : [email protected]

General Formulation to Investigate Scattering from Multilayer Lossy Inhomogeneous Metamaterial Planar Structures
This paper presents a general formulation to investigate the scattering from Multilayer Lossy Inhomogeneous Metamaterial Planar Structure (MLIMPS) with arbitrary number of layers and polarization. First, the dominating differential equation of transverse components of electromagnetic fields in each layers derived. Considering the general form of solution of the differential equations and the bo...
متن کاملTopological Phases and Their Duality in Electromagnetic and Gravitational Fields
The duality found by Aharonov and Casher for topological phases in the electromagnetic field is generalized to an arbitrary linear interaction. This provides a heuristic principle for obtaining a new solution of the field equations from a known solution. This is applied to the general relativistic Sagnac phase shift due to the gravitational field in the interference of mass or energy around a l...
متن کاملElectromagnetic Duality Based on Axiomatic Maxwell Equations
No positive result has been obtained on the magnetic monopoles search. This allows to consider different theoretical approaches as the proposed in this paper, developed in the framework of the Einstein General Relativity. The properties of second rank skew-symmetrical fields are the basis of electromagnetic theories. In the space-time the Hodge duality of these fields is narrowly related with t...
متن کاملEntangled Quantum Particles Heavier?
The magnetic induction creates a negative electric field, causing an electromagnetic inertia responsible for the relativistic mass change; it is the mysterious Higgs Field giving mass to the particles. The accelerating electrons explain not only the Maxwell Equations and the Special Relativity, but the Heisenberg Uncertainty Relation, the Wave-Particle Duality and the electron’s spin also, buil...
متن کاملA Quantum of Light Shed on Classical Potentials and Fields*
The classical theory of retarded electromagnetic potentials is usually attributed to Liénard (1898) and Wiechert (1900), who developed a mathematical model based on Euclidean geometry and general signal retardation analogous to that occurring with light propagation. The Liénard-Wiechert model represents the amalgamation of dual concepts: the discrete particle (the source) and the continuous wav...
